WHEN Geelong's Natasha Maddock gave up her corporate career to become an interpreter for the deaf, she could never have imagined it would be the State Government that delivered the thumbs down to her dreams. One year into a two-year, full-time Australian Sign Language Auslan course at the Richmond campus of Kangan Institute, Ms Maddock, 34, said she was devastated to learn the course would not be continued next year because of State Government funding cuts to the TAFE sector. A spokesperson for the Gordon yesterday said new enrolments would not be taken for nine distance education courses currently offered by the institute's Centre for Essential Business Skills.

The National Party has acquiesced to the Liberal party majority in the Coalition once again and allowed savage cuts to programs and services in regional areas that will impact on the very people the National party claims to represent.
